Steep, Soak, Soothe: Rediscovering the Bath Ritual for Mind, Body and Soul

by cocoshore May 25, 2025
written by cocoshore

In today’s fast-paced world, few rituals slow us down quite like a warm bath. But did you know that
the simple act of bathing was once considered a sacred experience? Across ancient civilisations,
the bath was more than a way to cleanse the skin – it was a gateway to emotional release, spiritual
realignment, and inner peace.

At Cocoshore, we’re passionate about reviving that tradition. Our Chamomile and Lavender Bath
Tea is inspired by the old ways – a botanical blend that transforms your bath into a moment of
stillness and healing.

And when paired with a calming cup of herbal tea, like Jaroma Tea’s award-winning blends, this
ritual becomes an immersive journey of self-care – from the outside in.

In this blog, we dive into the timeless art of bathing, explore the therapeutic power of herbs, and
share our favourite rituals for combining tea and tub.

A Brief History of Bathing: More Than a Cleanse

Throughout history, bathing has held deep cultural and emotional meaning. Ancient people
understood that the body thrives in water – and that water has the power to hold, cleanse, and
restore.

Cleopatra is perhaps the most famous bather in history. The Queen of the Nile was said to bathe in
warm milk blended with honey and rose oil – a ritual that nourished her skin and soothed her spirit.
Her bath wasn’t just about beauty; it was a sacred time to connect with the divine feminine.

Japanese onsen bathing centres around nature and silence. Soaking in mineral-rich spring water
promotes relaxation and longevity. Turkish hammams combine steam and exfoliation with deep rest.
Russian banyas use herbal infusions and birch leaves to stimulate detox through the skin and
lymphatic system.

These traditions prove what we intuitively know: a bath is more than hot water. It’s a ceremony. A
return to the self.

Why Botanicals Belong in the Bath

At Cocoshore, we believe water alone is powerful – but when infused with botanicals, it becomes
transformative.

Our Chamomile and Lavender Bath Tea was crafted to elevate your soak using ingredients that
have been cherished for centuries:

  • Chamomile Flowers: Known for calming the nervous system and soothing inflamed skin
  • Lavender Buds: Aromatic and relaxing; supports emotional release and promotes better sleep

When steeped in hot bathwater, these botanicals slowly release their aroma, oils, and natural benefits – much like a tea for the body.

Soaking with Intention: The Mind-Body-Soul Benefits

A warm botanicals bath supports all three layers of wellness:

Body:

    • Relaxes sore muscles
    • Softens and hydrates skin
    • Reduces inflammation and stimulates circulation

    Mind:

      • Decreases anxiety
      • Supports parasympathetic (rest) nervous system
      • Creates space for mindfulness and reflection

      Soul:

        • Encourages presence and self-connection
        • Feels sacred, ancient, and deeply feminine
        • Acts as a gentle reset when life feels overwhelming

Add in the ritual of a warm drink, and you’ve created a full sensory experience – one that touches
every part of your being. This can used as one of your self-care rituals.

Sipping While Soaking: The Jaroma Tea Ritual We Love

One of our favourite ways to enhance the bath ritual is by pairing it with a cup of herbal tea. Why not try the botanical wellness blends by Jaroma Tea – a South Australian tea brand with a focus on organic, functional infusions.

Here are a few of their blends that would pair nicely with our bath tea:

Night Owl – Deep Sleep Blend:
A dreamy mix of chamomile, lemon balm, lavender, and passionflower – the perfect tea to wind
down your day. Ideal when paired with Cocoshore Chamomile & Lavender Bath Tea for a sleep
        ritual.

Goddess Bliss – Hormone & Skin Support Blend:
This tea supports feminine balance with herbs like burdock root, milk thistle, and peppermint. A
beautiful way to honour your inner goddess – especially with rose-infused bathwater.

My Personal Ritual: How I Wind Down at Home

As someone who hand-blends botanicals bath products, I often crave quiet moments to refill my own
        cup – literally and figuratively.

My evening ritual looks like this:

        • I steep a mug of Jaroma Tea – usually Night Owl if it’s been a full-on day.
        • I run a bath and drop in Cocoshore Bath Tea (in its cotton bag) under the faucet to let it gently
          infuse.
        • I light a few candles, turn off my phone, and breathe.

The tea in my cup and the tea in my bath work together to slow me down. By the time I’m wrapped
in my robe and ready for sleep, my mind is softer, my heart calmer. This is self-care. This is
        self-respect.

Create Your Own Bath & Tea Ritual: A Simple Guide

Want to create your own sanctuary at home? Here’s how to get started.

        You’ll Need:

        • A sachet of Cocoshore Bath Tea
        • A cup of Jaroma Herbal Tea
        • Candles or gentle lighting
        • Soft music or silence
        • 30 minutes of uninterrupted time

        Step-by-Step:

        1. Fill your bath with warm water.
        2. Place the bath tea sachet into the water. Let it steep for 5-10 minutes.
        3. Brew your herbal tea and bring it to the tub.
        4. Slide in, breathe deep, and allow yourself to simply be.
        5. Stay as long as you like. Rinse off gently, dry, and rest.

Closing Thoughts: Return to the Ritual

Bathing is a practice as old as humanity – but in our busy modern lives, it’s easy to forget its magic.

At Cocoshore, we invite you to bring back the bath. Not as a chore, but as a gift to yourself. To
steep in botanicals. To sip your favourite tea. To make space for silence, breath, and reconnection.

Whether you’re drawn to the elegance of Cleopatra’s rituals or the quiet simplicity of Japanese
soaking, one thing remains true: water heals. Herbs nourish. And you are worthy of both.

So go ahead. Draw the bath. Brew the tea. And come home to yourself.

        Essential Oils VS Fragrance Oil

        by cocoshore May 9, 2022
        written by cocoshore
It is important to understand the difference between Essential Oils VS Fragrance Oil. To know what you are putting on your body. Essential oils are pure, clean and a natural scent. Essential oils can even have health and therapeutic benefits. Essential oils are naturally occurring in the environment, pure plant extracts. Essential oils are extracted from natural botanicals usually being stem-distilled. Whereas fragrance is man-made, synthetically made chemical scent compounds. Fragrance can be drying and irritating to the skin. Fragrance oil is designed to mimick a scent with no health benefits. This is why, here are Cocoshore we only use the HIGHEST QUALITY ORGANIC ESSENTIAL OIL’S. To make sure that you are getting the purest form of essential oil.

When using essential oil, you are getting more than just a scent, you are getting therapeutic benefits.

        My Why.

        written by cocoshore

Lately I have been thinking about why I am in this business. What is my why for the business.

To be honest at the start, I was just grasping at a straw trying to find a purpose in life. But as time has gone on and the business has evolved. I have found my place. I have been able to create something that I can be proud of. I have found new passions and have meet some wonderful people along the way.

I am now forming a clear vision of what I want Cocoshore to be. I want to form a community that values themselves and put themselves first. I want to create something more than just a body product range/ business. I want to form a community. A self-care community.

Lets spread the message that we all deserve time for self-care. We all need to have some self-care.

We want to create products that make you feel good using them and that have benefits for your skin. We want to make sure that everything we make contain only skin loving ingredients.

We value supporting other Australian Small Businesses. This is important to us, to make sure that we are sourcing things locally and from other small businesses. The bonds that we have formed with other businesses are special and it has helped me find who I am and what I want Cocoshore to be.

        You Choose:

I found this image very powerful.

This image really does demonstrate the power of perspective. Sometimes it can be as easy as changing your view to change your life. You get to choose how you perceive the situation. You have the power.

When you look at the origin of the word, Perspective it has a Latin root meaning “look through” or “perceive,” and all the meanings of perspective have something to do with looking (https://www.vocabulary.com/dictionary/perspective, 2021).

Perspective is some a powerful tool that we can control. Our perception of the world influences our approach to the world and what we do. You have to power to change your view on the world.

Take some timeout to evaluate your life. Taking a step back from everything puts things into perspective. It shows what is really important and what is not important. You can reflect on life events and maybe change your perceptive on them, to a more positive view. We all see the world differently. there is no right or wrong way to look at life. Just what works for you.

        Your Perspective … Your Choose…

How are you going to perceive the world today?

        Affirmations And Self-Care:

        by cocoshore March 2, 2021
        written by cocoshore

Affirmations have been around for a while now. You can make them suit you and your current life stage. Affirmations are not a one size fits all. That is what I love about them, affirmations are easily adaptable and individual to everyone. There is no right or wrong way to practice affirmations. What’s the harm in giving it a go, a little bit of positive light in your life. They are not going to change your life straight away or drastically but they may shed some positive light in your mind.

Saying, reading and listening to affirmation is a great way to practice self-care. You are making time for yourself, while trying to improve your mindset. Practicing affirmation is something quick and has so many benefits. The affirmations will only work if you truely believe in the statement. When you believe in the statement, then positive changes will happen. Make sure that the statement is positive and in present tenses. When practising your affirmation, make sure you are fully present to what you are saying, writing or listening. Focus on each word.

For me I have collected affirmations and quotes for many years, but only this year I have started listening to them. I found when listening to them you find yourself saying them after the person. I am on the journey to seeing if affirmations will help me. I believe if you are consistent and find ones that work for you, they will help. Creating a journal of affirmation that you resinate with will help you remember them and you can get creative with this.

The good thing about affirmations is that you can personalise every aspect of your practice. There are no rules about when and how often you need to say the affirmation, just that repetition is key. You can say the affirmation aloud to yourself in the mirror, say it to yourself, listening to them or write it down. Put the affirmation around your house and workspace as daily reminders to say the affirmations. As repetition is key. It is going to take time to notice change in your mindset.

You can change your affirmation to fit what is currently happening in your life. Make the affirmation relevant to you and the stage of life you are currently at. Making sure that the affirmations are clear and specific as it makes it easier for your brain to process. By using ‘I am’ statements, it helps the subconscious mind believe these statements as truth.

Affirmation are a self-help tool to help you on your journey of self improvement. Affirmation may not be for everyone. It takes time to notice the change. The aim is to strengthen the positive, optimistic brain pathways.

So go out today and find some affirmation that resinate with you and start repeating them.

Shed some positive light on your mindset.

It is that time of year where we sit and reflect on the year that has been. And what a year it has been. 2020 has not been an easy year. But it is still important to reflect on what we have achieved throughout the year. No matter how big or small. An achievement is an achievement and worth celebrating. What have I achieved this year:

        • Completed a Cert III in Business.
        • Completed a Cert IV in Small Business Management.
        • Created Cocoshore’s own website.
        • Opened a Pop up shop for a week at Ripley Town Centre.
        • Started a Self-Care blog.
        • Started stocking EcoCentric.
        • Added new products.
        • Meet some wonderful customers and fellow small business owners.
        • Made it through the year.

Can’t wait to see what 2021 has installed for us. Big things ahead.

        Festive Season and Self-Care

        by cocoshore December 5, 2020
        written by cocoshore

The festive season is usually one of the most stressful times of the year. During this time we have so many things on our ‘to do’ list and self-care is not one of them. We are very good at burning ourselves out during the festive season, therefore not enjoying it. It is important to break this cycle of ‘festive burn out’. Lets look at the festive season and self-care.

Often we come into the festive season already tired from a busy year. And the added stress of having the ‘perfect Christmas’, just adds another layer of stress. We need to focus on what we can achieve without getting burnt out. Christmas is not about being burnt out and not looking after yourself. Take time for yourself this festive season.

Learn to ask for help, spread the load of the ‘to do’ list. You are not the only one that has to do it all. Asking for help is one of the best ways to prevent ‘festive burn out’. Spread the load. Remember that you can say No, even though it is Christmas. It is better to say No than to burn out and not enjoy Christmas. We need to learn to manage our expectations of Christmas, stop comparing yourself to others and what you see on T.V. and social media. Do what is right for you and your family.

This time of year is fast pace and stressful. We need to take a step back and breath. It is often about taking care of others. But we need to remember to make time for ourselves, to make it the best Christmas and to avoid ‘festive burn out’. Take so time out of the festive season for some self-care.

You could even practice self-care with your family. Take a walk outside together, meditation or practice gratitude. Just remember to take a step back and reflect on what is really important. Prioritise what is important and what has to get done. Take five minutes every day to brain dump all of your thoughts, feelings and what needs to get done. This a good way to clear your mind and refocus on what needs to get done. You can also visualise what is causing you stress and how you could deal with it. This activity is also really quick but is effective in re-centering yourself.

We need to take a step back and reflect on what Christmas means to you. Do you really need to do that … for Christmas to be what it is meant to be. Do we need to go to extraordinary lengths for Christmas. Is that what our family wants. OR would your family be happy with a more simple Christmas but for you to be present and enjoying yourself.

Remember to breath and enjoy yourself this festive season.
