At the start of the year there is always talk about setting New Years resolutions. Why do we feel this pressure to change only at the start of the year? We often don’t achieve that resolution and feel like we have failed. But what if there’s a more effective way to approach personal growth?
New year, new me. Why do we alway have to change. You don’t need to reinvent yourself every January. Change the thought to improve don’t fix. Think of personal growth as a way to enhance your life. Make sure that the change is coming form self-love and a desire to grow rather than a place of dissatisfaction.
Why do we need New Years resolutions. We often set a resolutions that we don’t care about. We set them cause we feel we have to. New years resolutions are often set out of obligation rather than passion. There is no passion or drive to achieve the resolution. This is how you end up with resolutions laking meaning and drive and the commitment needed to succeed.
Let’s explore the difference between resolutions and goals and how choosing the right approach can set you up for success.
Resolution also gives the impression that we need to fix something. A better way to look at this is to improve an aspect of your life. This doesn’t have to be personal, but something general in life. Resolutions are typically broad statements of intent, often made with enthusiasm but lacking a plan. While new years resolutions are positive aspirations, resolutions often fail because they rely on willpower alone, without a clear roadmap or actionable steps.
Why not set a goal for each month that build on each other. Break the pressure down. Goals break down the big ideas into manageable steps, creating a framework for progress. Goals encourage accountability and provide a way to track your journey.
We need goals/ steps to how we can achieve this new year resolution. Break the resolution into smaller goals. Something that is achievable. When you break the resolution into small goals it helps to make them more manageable and achievable. Therefore setting ourselves up for success. Also in having smaller goals it helps to reduce the pressure and creates momentum.
Don’t make a goal that you feel that others want you to achieve or something that doesn’t mean anything to you. It has to be important for you to work towards. Choose a goal that excites you, lights you up, what would you be proud to achieve. What is your reason for wanting to achieve this goal in doing this it helps to create passion and perseverance.
Let’s make this year a celebration of progress, not perfection.
Love your body.
